China’s Live Game Streaming Firms Huya, DouYu to merge

Tencent’s proposed merger of Chinese live-streaming platforms, Huya and DouYu, was set into motion on Monday when both companies announced that they have entered into an agreement and plan of merger. Huya and DouYu together will control over 80% of the Chinese online gaming market. The merger is expected to close during the first half of 2021. Full Story Yahoo News (10/12)

IBM Makes Esports Entry with Multi-year Overwatch League Deal

IBM and the Overwatch League announced a multi-year deal to bring IBM’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to eSports. A sponsorship component kicked off at this year’s 2020 Overwatch League Grand Finals, which took place October 8th to the 10th.  With the agreement, IBM becomes the official AI, cloud, and analytics sponsor of the Overwatch League. LaLiga Football School Launches LaLiga Club Series for Young Aspirants Across India

Spain’s top division football league LaLiga has launched an online educational program in India for students at its football schools in the country. FPT Telecom Acquires Screening Rights for Major Asian Football Tournaments

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has agreed that Vietnamese’s telecommunications giant FPT Telecom will be their new media partner in Vietnam from 2021 to 2024. The deal includes all major AFC national team and club competitions, including but not limited to the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar, the AFC Asian Cup China 2023, the AFC U23 Asian Cup Finals 2022 and 2024, the AFC Champions League and the hugely popular AFC Cup from the 2021 season onwards. Sei Young Kim Wins 1st Major at Women’s PGA Championship

South Korean golfer, Sei Young Kim, claimed the first major title of her career at the Women’s PGA Championship, with a record-equaling final round. Korean Baseball League to Reopen Stadiums This Week

Korea’s KBO baseball league is reopening stadiums at up to 20% capacity this week. KBO stadiums had opened to fans in August but were shut again after an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country. Fans will undergo temperature checks at arena entrances and are required to wear masks while in stadiums.
