HOUSTON, TX – (April 16, 2020) – Former Denver Broncos and Texas Longhorns defensive tackle, Paul Boyette Jr., recently signed with the Japan X-League’s All Mitsubishi Lions, where he is set to play in the 2020 season. Boyette Jr., a native of Houston, Texas, will bring NFL caliber to Japan’s professional football league, opening the channel for other former and aspiring NFL players to play internationally.

“This is a special and unique opportunity. Not only for Paul to have the chance to continue his football career and to experience a new culture, but also for the many other football players who would like additional opportunities outside the NFL, CFL and XFL.” Said Leif Rogers, CEO of Red Phoenix Entertainment. “We’re also very proud that the Houston sports scene is continuing to play a pivotal role in bridging American sports with Asia.”

Japan’s X-League, founded in 1971, is Japan’s premier American football league. Boyette Jr. will be playing in the league’s top tier, where the All Mitsubishi Lions team, based in Tokyo, competes against seven other teams from across Japan.

Boyette Jr.’s signing marks a significant turning point for the X-League, as it becomes an attractive and competitive option for American football players to continue their careers post- college. Boyette Jr. will look to bring his NFL and BIG-12 pedigree onto the fields of Japan and will undoubtedly experience a life-changing cultural experience in the process.

“I would like to thank the entire Mitsubishi corporation for giving me this great opportunity to represent them.” Said Paul Boyette Jr. “I look forward to being a leader on the field, as well as off the field in the community. I’m excited to get to Japan and meet my teammates and peers, and most importantly the fans of Mitsubishi. Go Lions!”
